The Association of Chief Police Officers International Affairs
The UK police have a worldwide reputation for excellence and expertise in delivering effective policing. Their skills and experience enable the UK Government to provide international policing assistance to help promote stability and support peace operations overseas. The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) International Affairs provides the support necessary to ensure the UK police service can provide a seamless deployment of police resources. It brings together the expertise and experience of UK police officers and staff and provides a professional forum to share best practice in delivering effective policing overseas.
ACPO International Affairs (ACPO IA) is fully aligned within the Security and Justice Team in the Stabilisation Unit.
This centrally-located team provides:
• the communication hub for all international policing activities
• a central point of contact for UK Government departments, UK police and all countries
• management of the International Police Assistance Board (IPAB)
• co-ordination of the IPAB referral processes
• Support in providing advice on all mandatory processes for the overseas deployment of UK police
o Section 26 – Police Act 1996 (England and Wales)
o Section 12A – Police Act 1967 (Scotland)
o Section 8 – Police Act 2000 (Northern Ireland)
• guidance in relation to all overseas police deployments
• information resources in relation to policing best practice, plans and lessons learnt
