Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
The Stabilisation Unit has deployed a stabilisation advisor to MONUC (UN Mission DR Congo) since 2008. The adviser is based in MONUC offices in Goma in Eastern DRC. The adviser role in particular focuses on stabilisation issues policy, political advice to the Eastern co-ordinator and works closely with the military in the Forward HQ. Somalia
In the summer of 2009, the Stabilisation Unit was commissioned to facilitate a new cross Whitehall strategy on Somalia. The Unit launched the process by convening a series of workshops in London and concluding in Nairobi to examine departmental interests and objectives. The outcome from each workshop was written up and used to feed into the new strategy being drafted by the FCO. In addition to the strategy work, the Unit also engaged with the AU and AMISOM in late 2009 on stabilisation lessons.
Yemen
The Stabilisation Unit facilitated cross government discussions on Yemen in the summer of 2009.
Pakistan
In summer 2009, the Stabilisation Unit, as part of a Friends of Democratic Pakistan team, supported the Pakistan Presidency in formulating a stabilisation strategy for Malakand.
