60 seconds interview with Roy Fleming OBE

Roy FlemingOur latest sixty seconds interview with Roy Fleming, the Rule of Law Adviser in the Lessons Team within the Stabilisation Unit. Roy joined the Unit in 2005 with extensive policing experience, in operations and policy in Northern Ireland and as a senior tutor at the UK Police Staff College. A prosecutor in Northern Ireland for seven years, he played a key role in the transformation of the police service there following the political settlement, designing and implementing changes in police training and education. Roy has also worked for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in a number of places including Macedonia, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Romania and the Caribbean and been the head of the Counter Narcotics Team and the Rule of Law team in the Helmand Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Afghanistan.

In his current role, Roy provides expert advice to the UK Government on establishing and improving the Rule of Law in fragile states and supports the planning of stabilisation operations. In the past year he has been heavily involved in supporting stabilisation efforts in Afghanistan, Libya, Pakistan and Somalia as well as contributing to the development of the Stabilisation Unit's lessons function.

His contribution to the UK Government was formally recognised in 2011 when he was appointed as an Officer in the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in Her Majesty's Birthday Honours.
