South Sudan - 6 months on from independence

Hamish Wilson, stabilisation advisorOn July 9th 2011, South Sudan gained independence from Sudan. Six months on, Hamish Wilson, one of our stabilisation advisors, shares his thoughts and experience of his deployment to South Sudan and the challenges that face the world's newest country.

Hamish arrived in Juba shortly after South Sudan became an independent  state,  his role was to provide stabilisation expertise and advice on how to tackle the  areas  and populations most at risk of conflict and insecurity. Hamish has previously worked for the Stabilisation Unit in Afghanistan, an experience that proved invaluable on his latest deployment.
