The AREU is an independent research organisation based in Kabul. AREU’s mission is to inform and influence policy and practice through conducting high-quality, policy-relevant research and actively disseminating the results, and to promote a culture of research and learning. To achieve its mission AREU engages with policymakers, civil society, researchers and students to promote their use of AREU’s research and its library, to strengthen their research capacity, and to create opportunities for analysis, reflection and debate. AREU was established in 2002 by the assistance community working in Afghanistan.

The goal of The Afghanistan Analyst is to provide an online research portal for scholars, students, journalists, policy-makers, NGO/humanitarian workers, and others who want to better understand Afghanistan. The site has an emphasis on security and development.

A Constitutionalized, National and Independent Human Rights body in Afghanistan.

4   Link   Afghanistan Conflict Monitor
Highlights new research and analysis in Afghanistan. In addition to the conflict itself, the Monitor focuses on a broad set of related issue-areas, including health, development, displacement, governance, gender, small arms, landmines, human rights and transitional justice. It provides summaries of academic articles and reports, and links to key documents, publications, organizations, and data.
5   Link   Helmand Monitoring and Evaluation Programme (HMEP)
The Helmand Monitoring & Evaluation Programme (HMEP) is a joint DFID and PRT funded programme, implemented by Coffey International Development, designed to assist improved delivery and effectiveness of stabilisation and development programming in Helmand. HMEP collates data from third party sources as well as drawing on a dedicated research capacity to establish baselines and monitor indicators of progress against the Helmand Plan. Data is presented graphically and geospatially and stored on an interactive database, accessible from an online website. HMEP produces quarterly monitoring and analytical reports and up to four ad hoc, reactive reports per year aligned with PRT and DFID reporting requirements. In addition, HMEP is set up to support the development of programmatic capacity in the PRT to support the integration of monitoring and evaluation into planning and programme implementation. 6   Link   Co-operation for Peace and Unity
Their mission is to facilitate the process of peacebuilding and sustainable development through systematic and comprehensive capacity development and various programmatic interventions.

This, in turn, leading to the creation of an enabling environment for Afghan communities in order for them to actively participate in the promotion of social justice, development and peacebuilding in Afghanistan.

The British and Irish Agencies Afghanistan Group (BAAG) was set up by British NGOs in 1987 as an umbrella group to draw public attention to the humanitarian needs of the population of Afghanistan and of Afghan refugees in Iran and Pakistan.

Peace Dividend Trust (PDT) is a non-profit foundation dedicated to making peace and humanitarian operations more effective, efficient and equitable, resulting in cheaper, faster and more successful missions.

In Afghanistan, PDT supports long-term economic recovery by increasing purchasing of goods and services available in country. When the international community buys and hires locally, a substantive part of their operational spending directly enters the local economy and supports private sector development and entrepreneurship.
11   Link   Turquoise Mountain Foundation
Turquoise Mountain is investing in the regeneration of the historic commercial centre of Kabul, providing basic services, saving historic buildings and constructing a new bazaar and galleries for traditional craft businesses. The Foundation uses the resources and skills of the Institute to serve Afghan communities.

13   Link   International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)
ISAF, in support of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, conducts operations in Afghanistan to reduce the capability and will of the insurgency, support the growth in capacity and capability of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), and facilitate improvements in governance and socio-economic development, in order to provide a secure environment for sustainable stability that is observable to the population.
